The Krishna Kirtan Festival.
This annual festival of non-stop chanting is a one of a kind event held in the United States. Hundreds of the most devoted and experienced Krishna kirtan singers and musicians from all over the world travel to the rolling hills of West Virginia. There, they commune with other Krishna devotees to sing, play and dance uninterruptedly for 24 hours. The melodious repetition of Lord Krishna’s name creates unifying energy with the divine, and for the believers represents the only viable method of attaining complete self-purification, self-realization, and self-satisfaction.
The event takes place in the New Vrindaban Community, home of the Sri Sri Radha Vrindadaban Candra temple and the Palace of Gold in the Appalachian Mountains in rural West Virginia. The community was founded in 1968 by His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada who moved to the United States from India a few years earlier. His life mission was to create an ideal society based on Krishna Consciousness, or love of God.
